New look and new projects:
the stolen confessions backstage Buona Domenica.
An interview with Fiorello.

The turn of the Karaoke king.

(GRTV) Buona Domenica of Channel 5 registered Maurizio Costanzo-Fiorello did not win the first war of the ratings, but it brought back the former king of karaoke in great shape. Hair cut, no more ponytail, a sportiest look sometimes classic, little specs that give him an interesting air. We met him in the set of Buona Domenica, and "stole", between a break and another, some secrets.

How did you survive the departure of the program?

Well I would say, I was extremely agitated, but then after the usual rituals with Mr. Costanzo, I began strong. However, only when I'll be able to do in front of the cameras what I'm able to do off cameras then I'll be able to say that I've won this exhibition and will show what I'm worth. Mostly because of this, we've studied in the inside studio of Buona Domenica a space to air all the skits that happen between takes or during commercials.

Now you're fixed partners with Costanzo. Did he give you any advice for this new television adventure?

He doesn't give me advice, he's just amused with me and that's enough. He stands there and laughs, and for me that's a big sign of trust. I should say that he's helped me like real friend, mostly during a time of my life where I felt alone.

Nowadays you've changed: what happened?  Should you thank anyone?

Often, an artist becomes hateful for fault of the people he has near. During Sanremo I was surrounded by bodyguards who wouldn't let me approach or be approached by anyone, whereas I would have liked to have been approached by the public. When I realized what was happening, I took it upon myself to change that. And here I am today, with a new manager, my sister Katy.

What has annoyed you during the past?

Surely the fact that when in the beginning I lead the karaoke and I was a winning personality, I had the public's approval. Then, should you be wrong by an inch, they'll make you pay. I remember that when I began with "Toothbrush", I went in a wave against "The Cervelloni" conducted by Bonolis who picked only a few hundreds of viewers more than me. The next day the newspapers headlines went crazy such as "A finished career for Fiorello".  It stated a symbolic fact: that I could NOT be able to arrive second. The same thing happened at Sanremo: I should have won and that's that. The problem is that when you become successful they all say you're in way over head, and so even friends start to distance themselves.

Let's talk about Sanremo. How did the evening go?

I sang horribly. Many times after that I've sung "Finalmente Tu" I have never hit it in the same tone I did that time. However I would return gladly to the festival. In the course of the first episode of Bouna Domenica, our guest was Laura Pausini and I threw an idea at her, she might agree: we could go as a duo. But this time, I'll say it straight: I'd rather end up in the 9th or 12th spot.

Sometime soon a new album of yours will come out. What's it about?

During these years many things have happened to me that I wanted to tell them. In this new LP produced by Cassano (producer for Ramazzotti), there are some songs written by me. The release is expected by  November and the temporary title is "Saro Fiorello".

Today you're presenting yourself to the public without the ponytail, that became an actual style.

Some wrote that I would have cut it for a choice of life, but that's not so. I simply changed look. Nowadays, the ponytail is ancient.

Would you return to conduct the karaoke?

Within two or three years, yes. I would want to see all those people that used to throw me sandwiches from the balconies.

Lately you've experienced acting. Would you like to do films?

I interpreted a small part in for a TV movie "God sees and provides" on Channel 5. But I had other proposals: asking me to be the lead actor on a TV mini-series that I'll do in a couple of years. It's about a policeman sort of like Eddie Murphy, who jokes all the time, but who knows how to use pull out a gun at the right moment. Such attention from the big screen flatters me, but first I'd like to do theater.
